The 24th Women in Nuclear (WiN) Global Annual Conference — under the theme Powering Generation — was a resounding success with the many stimulating panel discussions and poster presentations. A technical tour to the construction site of Barakah nuclear power plant and the vibrant social events were arranged.
The conference was organized by WiN UAE (President: Hasna Al Blooshi) and sponsored by Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and Nawah Energy Company. The IAEA also funded the participation of almost 20 women, mostly from developing countries. With over 700 participants from 56 countries registered for the event. The first event in Arab Region had the best attended WiN Global conference ever.
On 21 November — the opening day — before a word was spoken, Emirates traditional dance was performed. The conference was opened by Se-Moon Park, WiN Global President; Mr. Mohamed Al Hammadi, CEO of ENEC; and Mohammed Sahoo AlSuwaidi, CEO of Nawah Energy Company. During the WiN Global General Assembly, held on 22nd November, Se- Moon Park , awarded Appreciation Plaques to whom contributed and supported WiN activities during her presidential term. She ended her term of the 6th President of WiN Global. Gabriele Voigt was elected as the 7th WiN Global President and Heather Kleb as the Vice-President.
The conference programme — in the form of panel discussions — covered 6 different sessions; Regulator's Current and Future Issues; Do you have to be from a "STEM" background to become successful in the nuclear Industry; Nuclear Professional Attributes in the Nuclear Industry; Gender Equality in the Nuclear Industry; Succeeding in a Multi-cultural Environment within the Nuclear Industry; Radiation Application Status and Involvement of Women Professionals.
Twenty two Chapter Reports were presented.
