WiN Global at COP30: Advancing Inclusion, Leadership, and Innovation in the Clean Energy Transition

November 19, 2025

WiN Global proudly concluded a powerful and inspiring participation at COP30 in Brazil, reaffirming our commitment to elevating women’s leadership and advancing a more inclusive clean energy future.

Since becoming an accredited observer organization to the UNFCCC in 2020, WiN Global has worked to ensure that the experiences and expertise of women in the nuclear sector are represented in global climate dialogue.

This mission was strengthened in 2021 with the creation of the WiN Global Young Generation (YG) Group, empowering emerging leaders to represent our community at every COP. This year, our work was shaped and guided by the outstanding leadership of Gayatri Karnik (WiN Global YG Vice President for Cooperation), who has played a central role in ensuring a strong and strategic representation for our organization.  The whole delegation of our YG  embodied that spirit of dedication and collaboration, with key contributions also from Larissa Noudem, Els Reynaers, Safa Abdo, and Rafaela Mondadori, under the guidance of WiN Global President Melina Belinco and Executive Committee member Jhansi Kandasamy.

Another essential pillar of WiN Global is our network of local chapters. Wherever COP takes place, the host-country chapter proudly represents our global community. This year, WiN Global had the honor to be represented by Geórgia Joana, a member of the WiN Brazil Board.

Event Highlights: WiN Global’s Impact at COP30

Voices of the Transition – Inclusive Pathways to a Clean Energy Future
Co-hosted with IYNC and LAS-ANS Global

This session brought together leaders from government, youth networks, women’s organizations, and Indigenous communities to discuss how a diverse and inclusive energy transition is essential for achieving net-zero goals.

A standout moment at the UNFCCC side event was the emphasis on inclusive, courageous leadership and justice in the energy transition. Geórgia Joana delivered the Opening Remarks on behalf of WiN Global President Melina Belinco, who shared a powerful call to action that deeply resonated across the room: “Let’s challenge the systems that exclude, the narratives that divide, and the inertia that slows us down. Let’s prove that leadership is not defined by titles, but by the courage to build something better. Let us take from today not only ideas, but also the determination to act — together, across borders, disciplines, and generations.” Building on this message, indigenous activist Natália Mapuá highlighted that clean energy strategies must protect human rights, cultural heritage, and the lives of communities most affected by climate impacts.

This session reinforced the importance of collaboration across nuclear, renewable, and emerging technologies to secure a just, inclusive, and sustainable energy future.

Energy with a Voice: Women’s Leadership in the Climate Agenda
Co-hosted with IYNC

This dynamic session highlighted women leaders driving climate solutions worldwide, demonstrating how gender equality strengthens resilience and accelerates effective climate action.

Gender Mainstreaming in the Clean Energy Transition
Co-hosted with IAEA and Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE)

This discussion focused on the importance of embedding gender perspectives into policies, programs, and technologies to ensure a just and effective clean energy transition.

Gratitude and Next Steps

WiN Global extends heartfelt thanks to all representatives who contributed their expertise and dedication throughout COP30. A special acknowledgement goes to Gayatri Karnik for her enormous efforts and unwavering commitment, which were pivotal in ensuring WiN Global’s strong and strategic presence at this key event.
