During 23 and 25 April, we were thrilled to co-host an vibrant workshop of women leaders from around the globe “Powering Up: Women in Nuclear Advancing Gender Equality” in Argentina.
Together with our partners from NNSA’s Nuclear Security Women initiative (NSW), as well as from our regional chapter in Latin America & the Caribbean – WiN ARCAL – and WiN Argentina, the event provided an interdisciplinary forum for women from 17 countries, to showcase their technical work and raise awareness around the importance of gender equality and intersectional approaches to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The distinguished organising committee included the invaluable contributions of leaders from both NSW and WiN: Taylor Hart-McGonigle (DOE/NNSA), Lindsey Gehring (PNNL), Olga Martin (LANL), Kathleen Doty (PNNL), Melina Belinco and Eva Gyane (WiN Global), Verónica Garea (WiN ARCAL), and Delfina Di Lorenzo (WiN Argentina); and with the support of the National Atomic Energy Commission of the Republic of Argentina.
At the opening ceremony we counted on the inspirational remarks of the Director María Jimena Schiaffino (Directorate for International Security and Nuclear and Space Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Republic of Argentina) and MSc. Adriana Politi, Vice-President 2nd of the National Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Argentina.
A heartfelt thank you to each participant for making these three days not only a success but a deep source of inspiration. Your commitment and your unique experiences are crucial to build new ways towards a more inclusive, equal and green future for all.
