From March 30 to April 3, the Hwabaek International Convention Center (HICO) in Gyeongju hosted the 33rd WiN Global Annual Conference. Under the theme “Nuclear Energy for New Challenges,” the event—organized alongside WiN Korea and led by President Young-Sil Sul—brought together 589 international specialists to debate the strategic role of nuclear energy in addressing the climate crisis and the rising electricity demand of the AI era.
The opening ceremony featured distinguished speakers such as William D. Magwood IV (Director-General of the OECD/NEA) and Former Ambassador Eunha Park, who emphasized that a sustainable energy transition relies on global cooperation and robust women’s leadership. Through eight technical sessions and dedicated mentoring workshops, the conference covered everything from Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to nuclear medicine and digital technology.
Beyond the technical exchange, the conference placed a strong emphasis on fostering the next generation of professionals. Initiatives like the ‘5-Minute Speech Contest,’ the Mentoring Session hosted by the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), and the Gender Balance workshops provided a platform for emerging talent to showcase their vision and connect with established leaders. This focus on mentorship ensures that the momentum generated in Gyeongju will continue to drive innovation and diversity within the industry for years to come.
