Building One Nuclear Future: Highlights from the 2nd WiN Global Regional Event

More than 120 participants representing 25 nationalities came together in Baden, Switzerland, from 21–23 September 2026 for the 2nd WiN Europe Regional Event.

Hosted by WiN Switzerland in collaboration with WiN Europe, the WiN Global community enjoyed a three-day event that brought together women from across the nuclear sector to exchange expertise, strengthen connections, and explore opportunities for closer cooperation across Europe.

Under the motto “One Network. One Nuclear Future.”, the programme combined discussions on Europe’s evolving nuclear landscape with chapter collaboration, networking and technical visits.

Different perspectives on Europe’s nuclear future

Day 1 focused on energy security, innovation, and public dialogue, bringing together global, regional, and national insights from the IAEA, ETH Zurich, Axpo, national regulators, and chapter leaders. Discussions addressed evolving landscapes, small modular reactors, regulatory frameworks, and nuclear safety research, ending with a Welcome Dinner that fostered informal connections across chapters.

From networking to collaboration

Day 2 placed chapter interaction at the center through workshops on strategic priorities, stakeholder engagement, cross-border knowledge sharing, and communication. Participants also explored professional resilience, the Future Nuclear Ambassadors Program, and mentoring via MentorCity, feeding valuable insights into the WiN Europe Roadmap.

From exchange to first-hand experience

Day 3 featured technical visits to the Beznau and Gösgen nuclear power plants, the PSI Hot Laboratory, ZWILAG, and the Mont Terri Rock Laboratory. These tours provided direct insights into plant operations, radioactive waste management, geological disposal, and nuclear research while deepening international professional ties.

One Network. One Nuclear Future.

The key takeaway from Baden was clear: every chapter possesses valuable experience to share. From comparing national strategies and technical expertise to mentoring and co-creating new initiatives, the event demonstrated the power of collective knowledge.

Though the gathering lasted three days, the connections and ideas built in Baden lay a lasting foundation for ongoing collaboration across the European and global WiN network.
