History
Women in Nuclear Global (WiN Global) was formally founded in Zurich in 1992, with Dr. Irene Aegerter of Switzerland elected as its first President. The organization emerged in the post-Chernobyl context, when many women were deeply concerned about the potential impacts of nuclear energy on their health and the wellbeing of their families.
WiN Global was created as a space for women to connect, share concerns, and foster open dialogue grounded in scientific evidence.
Guided by a clear and forward-looking vision, WiN Global has evolved for more than three decades while remaining true to its core mission: empowering women and girls and fostering informed, transparent conversations on nuclear sciences and technologies. Since 2018, the organization has been a legally registered NGO based in Vienna, Austria.
In 2020, WiN Global reached an important milestone when it was officially recognized as an observer organization to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), reinforcing its role as a global voice for women and a trusted contributor to international climate and energy discussions.
