The 18th WiN Global Annual Conference

Technical topic: Nuclear Power Pivotal Choice for Green Growth

The 18th WiN Global Annual Conference was held from 9 to 14 May 2010 at Paradise Hotel, Busan, Korea. Participants were 350 from 30 countries. A Travel Award was provided to 8 delegates from 6 countries. The Organizing Committee was led by Se-Moon Park, President WiN Korea and Sung-Woon Hong, Chair of the WiN Korea Board and included Yeon-Sook Yun, So-Yon Kim, Yun-Sil Lee, Hae-Cho Lee, Nam-Sook Lee, Choo-Ok Lee, Young-Mi Nam, Rena Lee, Jae-Seon Lee, Seong-Kyung Cho, Sook-Kyung Lee, InYoung Noh, Young-Ok Lee, Sun-Yeong Choi and 25 WiN Korea leading members.

Based on the theme of "Nuclear Power Pivotai Choice for Green Growth", the technical sessions featured 73 oral presentations and 33 posters. ln addition, 6 concurrent sessions covered a wide range of topics such as the prospects for nuclear power plants, Radiation application, Public Acceptance, to the human resource development. Twenty six country reports were presented. The nuclear industries such as the Korean Government, KHNP, KAERI, KINS, KONEPA, KEPCOENC, KNS, KEPCO-RI, KNF, KINAC, Doosan, KAIF,NFRI, KRMC, Busan City, etc. supported us fjnancially.

ln this Conference, WiN-Korea donated the WiN Flag to initiate the delivery ceremony of the flag from the last host to the current host and to the next host country. It is kept standing throughout the Conference.

Dr. Suh HyunSuk, Korea, the Vice President of Ewha Womans University and CEOof the Ewha Medical Center was awarded the 2010 WiN Award for outstanding education, mentorship career for women's health using the radioisotopic therapy. Dr. Suh, a member of WiN Korea accepted the award, a crystal trophy, from WiN Global President, Cheryl Boggess.

The Gala Dinner provided entertainment with a Korean traditional fan dance, musical performance with B-Boys, modern musical performance, etc. The opening reception showed the traditional4 percussion instrumental performance done by the nuclear family. WiNners also gained first-hand experience of a variety of the cultures and foods of Korea through the conference and tours of the ancient city of Gyeongju and the National Ocean Park, Geojedo Island.

WiN Japan invited a post-meeting tour to Aomori, Japan for 4 days. 13 attended the technical tours for Rokkasho disposai site, Higashi-Dori Npp, JNFL and cultural tourto Nebuta and Shimokita Peninsula.
